Pastoral visitors needed!
Our Pastoral Care Team could use your help for a few hours each week. We have a number of parishioners who are housebound, some temporarily shut-in, some who are lonely and some unwell. An occasional visit or even just a phone call from someone who cares can be a great blessing. We would gladly provide some training and support if you feel you could help out. Please contact David Swift through the church office.

St. James Woods
In addition to the Church and Parish Hall property in Carleton Place, St. James Parish also owns other clergy lands known as St. James Woods.
The Woods is a 163.33-acre property in Ramsay Township, just to the north of and adjacent to the Town of Carleton Place. The original 200 acres were purchased by the Rector Rev. John Lauder and the Wardens, James Rosamond and Thomas Smith for the sum of 100 pounds in 1856. Since then 35.427 acres have been sold to the Town of Carleton Place for industrial development. The remaining land is woodland and farmland.

This property also is the site of the Church Cemetery and the Rectory.
Most of the property is a managed forest and part of the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP). This enables the land to be assessed comparable to farmlands and be taxed at a reduced rate. Two 20-acre fields are cultivated under agreement by a local farmer.
The property is also used by the Aston Snowduster Snowmobile Club and the Mississippi Valley Ski Club for part of their trail systems. Many local citizens also use the trails for walking, viewing and general outdoor recreation. See trails and flora.
The forested area is managed for wildlife, recreation, maintaining old growth white pine, and for the future harvest of forest products. Some tree planting in open areas continues.
A CERTIFIED FOREST
The forested part of this property are included in the 10,000 acres in Lanark County and area that are owned jointly by 21 landowners. This group is proceeding, with the assistance of the Eastern Ontario Model Forest, to obtain certification by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
FSC is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests. In this context, FSC certification ensures that forests are being managed responsibly, and the FSC trademarks (at right) are a guarantee that the products that bear them are derived from forests managed according to internationally recognized social and environmental standards.
