Pastoral visitors needed!
Our Pastoral Care Team could use your help for a few hours each week. We have a number of parishioners who are housebound, some temporarily shut-in, some who are lonely and some unwell. An occasional visit or even just a phone call from someone who cares can be a great blessing. We would gladly provide some training and support if you feel you could help out. Please contact David Swift through the church office.

Outreach Archives 2009
Christian work in Madagascar is supported by St. James and many other churches. The projects include:
Akany Famonjena - a Madagascar Orphanage and photos
Akany Tafita - Outreach to poor children and photos
MADAGASCAR NEWS - spring 2009
While I was in Madagascar from Jan. 22 until April 16, I had many wonderful times with the children at both Akany Tafita and Akany Famonjena.
I was particularly thrilled with the way in which the LITTLE children were so willing
to help with the activities and/or jobs of the older children.
Lovingly Mary Sherwood
In the extreme heat, Tiavana holds a large "water bottle” for the older boys who were mowing the grass. He didn’t even take a sip from “their” water ... poor kid!
Ralph carries a huge, heavy sack of fertilizer to the place where we were planting some fruit trees. He hopes they will grow VERY well with that fertilizer!
Dear Friends of St. James,
ERIC (left) recently had surgery, followed by a rather lengthy treatment program. He is fine now for which we praise God. Hopefully, he kept that super smile!
MADAGASCAR NEWS - winter 2009
He was able to write AND PASS his important school exam in July.
CONTINUING EDUCATION FIND
There is an ongoing need for replenishment of our fund. Our oldest boy is finishing his third-year university, and this year, four other boys will also be studying at a university or college.
We try to provide the education that is best suited for each student. We believe that this is the very best way to invest in their individual futures, as well as therefore the future of Madagascar. Let's Change Lives!
The continuing needs are:
A) the monthly budgets for the children at both Akanys
B) special education for those who need it
C) post-high school education for those capable of continuing to higher academic levels.

MADAGASCAR NEWS - fall 2009
Dear Friends of St. James,
THE MALAGASY CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS in a very simple but deeply meaningful way. Santa Claus parades, shopping for the perfect gifts, a freezer
full of turkey and baking, beautiful elaborate decorations are NOT priorities at all in Madagascar. YET CHRISTMAS IS EXCITING IN MADAGASCAR! Family re-unions, visiting the sick and lonely and worshipping together in church are main focuses during the Christmas season.
BECAUSE OF YOUR loving financial gifts, our children do each receive a humble Christmas gift of clothing and/or a toy.
AKANY TAFITA CHILDREN prepare and present a Christmas concert of songs and drama to an audience of their families and community friends. Then the children are presented with their little gift AND the parents are given one kilo of rice and some meat. This will provide for their family Christmas dinner.
AKANY FAMONJENA CHILDREN are involved in rather elaborate preparations for their Sunday School/Youth Group “old fashioned Christmas concert”. They prepare dramas, puppetry, appropriate dance and wonderful musical presentations. A few of our older boys compose their own songs and then teach them to the rest of the children at Akany Famonjena. The afternoon concert is really quite amazing! Having worshipped on Christmas morning and enjoyed the concert in the afternoon, they then gather around the Christmas tree in the orphanage home and share traditional Malagasy poetry, songs, and quiet gentle holy dance. SOON EVERYONE BURSTS INTO JOY AND LAUGHTER.
And each begins to look for their name on a little gift under the tree! THE CHILDREN KNOW THAT THOSE GIFTS ARE FROM YOU! THEY THANK YOU!
MARY SHERWOOD: I am excited to tell you that I will be flying to Madagascar on 1st February. I will be living, working, helping and serving in Madagascar for three months. I am also thrilled to tell you that I will then be traveling onward to the Solomon Islands, in the South Pacific. Most of you know that I lived and worked in the Solomon Islands for seven years before I moved to Madagascar. It has been twelve years since I have returned to visit there so I am looking forward to that time. I believe that God will have various ways in which I will be able to serve His people during my time in the Solomons. I ask for your prayers for my safety, health, sensitivity and discernment concerning ways that God would want to use me and pour His love through me to others. I very much need your prayer support and encouragement. THANKS in ADVANCE.
